Squires Rally, the approach
Leaving Islay via Port Ellen to Kennacraig then a short run over the Mull of Kintyre and a second ferry to Arran; Lochranza, home of probably Scotlands youngest distilary started from scratch in purpose built setting in 1995. Exploring the island didn’t look like it would take long but the roads, although mostly two lane unlike many we have been on, are rough and erratic keeping speeds even below those dictated by the twisty nature. The scenery though is as the tourist brochures say is Scotland in miniature, dramatic and varied, with almost ‘Home Counties’ cosiness on the east, lowlands Scotland to the south and rugged mountains in the north.
