Haggis Hunting Tour

The White Tail Rally

Friday, an early start, tent packed and sprint the 20 miles Benbecula to Lochboisdale for the early morning ferry, arriving only 2 minutes after last check-in, but on the ferry Ok. This our longest crossing but lots to see, after the open crossing passed Rhum, Eigg and Muck spends a long time in the Sound of Mull with good views of both sides. We pass Tobemoray and Kilchoan rounding the trip off for the first week. Into Oban and an hour to wait before back onto the next ferry, for Craignure and along the coast to the White Tail rally at the Glenforsa Hotel.

An excellent evenings impromptu live music from locals called in to replace the missing band, rounded off with a classic sunset. Saturday saw an organised ride out around the island or various disorganised loafing, walking the beach or visiting the local village for shopping. The evening had live music again where the claimed to be able to play any request, and succeeded.

Sunday morning, another early start for the Oban ferry at 8:30. A dramatic event was provided on this crossing by the practice launch and recovery of the rescue boat. Then down the Mull of Kintyre for the Islay ferry. Met the Gilmores on the ferry and followed them to the camping at Port Charlotte only to find it gone. It is now 800 yards away on the other side of the village, excellently equipped with a view any camper could want. That evening we eat at the Port Charlotte Hotel and expand our range of sampled whisky by a few more. Monday, visit the Bowmore distillery and the end of the road for another soup lunch, after three variations of lentil soup two in a row showing that swede can be made to taste good.
